As a large part of today’s country celebrates the Biden-Harris victory, I find it is equally important to remember all those who may be saddened and disappointed with these results, for they, too, fought hard and believed with all their heart that the United States was on the right path under Trump. Whether we agree or disagree, this is one of the freedoms of our democracy and is deserving of respect for each individual and their opinion.
In many ways, this is a day to reflect upon the Preamble to the Constitution:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
This was written in 1776, at a time when all were not looked upon as having been created equal …. and we have a long way to go to take off our blinders and make this a reality. In the depths of my heart, I firmly believe that we have the capacity to make this a reality. It is not rocket science; our choices will make it or break it. Let us act and make decisions that reflect that we acknowledge our belief that all “are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
There is no other way to move forward than on equal footing. It is imperative to believe that EVERYONE has something to contribute in making this country great.
Let us seek the best of each other. Let us seek to listen to each other so as to comprehend and understand.
I offer a challenge to each and every one of us: Let us Be kind and respectful in sharing our opinions so that we may unite rather than divide. Love can build a bridge, and only Love.
Let us not get carried away in celebrating and forget that the hard work of soul searching lies ahead and this requires a personal commitment. May we all do our part to heal the great divide.
The United States of America is at a crossroads – will America act justly, love tenderly and walk humbly? Will we? Will you?
